Luttons School gets The Ukelele Bug!

Children from Luttons CP School, West Lutton, are learning to play the Ukulele thanks to some kind fundraising by local musicians.

Sarah Dew, freelance teacher, has been teaching music at Luttons School since September 2014. The small rural school has limited resources for music so Sarah put out a request for donations of musical instruments to some of her contacts. As a result Dave Mason and the Seaside Strummers, a ukulele band from Scarborough, decided to assist by kindly busking in Scarborough Town Centre.  As a result the band raised £157 from the generous donations of the local people and with that money they bought Luttons School a set of ukuleles.

Sarah said “Thanks to the kind fund raising of Dave Mason and the Seaside Strummers, as well as all the people who gave donations, each of the children in Key Stage 2 now have a Ukulele each.  We are very grateful to them and I am enjoying teaching the children how to play them in our weekly music lessons”.

Luttons School has a cohort of just 30 children so rely on fundraising and kind donations to help obtain extra resources for the children. The school welcomes support from local business and groups and any willing to make further donations would be gratefully received.  The school can be contacted on 01944 738232.
