New Play Equipment for Luttons School

Luttons Community Primary School has been awarded a £9,992 grant from the National Lottery for brand new outdoor play and fitness equipment.

Luttons CP School, West Lutton, submitted the bid last summer when their existing outdoor play equipment had become so damaged that it could no longer be repaired at an economic cost.

The new timber adventure and fitness  trail includes a traverse net and panels, pole walk, ramps, stepping stones, log walk, log roller, balance beam and a raised platform used for role play and creative activities.  The use of wood to construct the trail is in keeping with its surrounding environment and the school’s aim to include Forest School practices.

Alison Stephenson, Head Teacher said “This new equipment is a fantastic new resource for our children.  Not only is it used by the children at break times, but we are incorporating into our lessons too, by our specialist PE teacher. This was a key point of our Lottery Bid as we recognise that this equipment can help to improve the fitness of our child and stave off health problems in later life”.

The adventure and fitness trail is designed to accommodate children of all ages and physical ability.  It will develop coordination and balance, encouraging children to be more active and risk taking.  In addition, the trail will help the children to work and play together to develop wider social skills.

The rural village of West Lutton does not have a public playground so it was felt even more important to install this new adventure and fitness trail at the school. It is a valuable resource which will enable further development of activities during and beyond school hours.
