The Great Wold Valley Heritage Trail

This project has developed from the findings of the Luttons and Weaverthorpe Parish Plan which was carried out in 2008 and is a response to the communities’ desire for greater information about their environment.

The heritage of the Great Wolds Valley, from Neolithic to Modern times, will be celebrated by the creation of a series of information boards located in villages from Wharram to Foxholes. As well as history and archaeology there will be sections on geology, flora and fauna plus maps, old and new, detailing the area.

In addition to the boards a pamphlet will be produced to promote the Heritage Trail through Tourist Information Centres. To encourage involvement with, and understanding of, the local heritage a teaching package will also be developed for use in the local primary schools.

We will be holding open days in the near future to enable people to come along and comment on the content of the boards and provide their contributions to the history of the area. We would like as many as possible to take part in this project as local knowledge is vital to the success of the Trail.

We have obtained grants from LEADER and the Heritage Lottery Fund to finance the project and hope that it will be completed in 2012.

Wolds Valley Memories

A new website has been launched to coincide with Remembrance that  endeavours to capture memories of the people who have lived and who live all along the Great Wolds Valley.   You can easily pass between these two sites to find out what went on in the past and what is going on right now in the villages.  You can do this by following this link to reach the wolds valley memories site.

The address of the new website is www.woldsvalleymemories.com so pop this into your Favourites file.

In addition to all sorts of Wolds Valley memories our Remembrance Feature will be given a permanent home on the new web site.

The new website is very much a work in progress. If you feel you have any information be it text or photos please send it via woldsvalleymemories@live.co.uk
